Foreign & Domestic Parts for your Automobile
Information for the smart consumer about the parts we sell and use on your car...
So, what is the difference between OE, OEM, OES and Aftermarket parts?
OE: Original Equipment: This part is either made by the car manufacturer or is made by an automotive part supplier and is branded with the car manufactures logo or in the car manufactures box.
OEM Original Equipment Manufacture
OES Original Equipment Supplier
Car manufacturers do not always make all the parts that are installed on their vehicles during assembly or repair. Their parts are contracted out to select manufacturers to make the parts for them. For the most part, the car manufacturer will make the body, frame and major engine components; the rest will be contracted to OEM/OES manufacturers. The car manufacturer provides the specifications to the OEM/OES manufactures for the parts they need. The OEM/OES supplier manufactures these parts to spec, adds a logo and ships it to the car manufacturer.
Now for the fun part of why I'm sharing this info (if you've read this far, good! You might save some money now!)...
Let's say, you buy a new brake caliper for your Volvo at your local dealership at retail price. You might pay $189. When you open the box, you'll find this brake caliper is probably made by a company called ATE. What is really great about this is that we sell this same exact part up to 25% less than what you might be paying at the dealer. What's the difference and why so much savings? We at Eliot's Autowerks buy the parts directly from the manufacturer the dealers are using to build their parts. The only difference is there may not be a Volvo logo on the part. Exact same parts, exact same quality!
Let me give you an example of a job we did for a customer on the example car we're using.
Typical dealer install of above part. Part $189 + 2 hours labor @ $125/hr = $439.00
Same installation as above at Eliot's Autowerks. Part $141 + 2 hours labor @70/hr = $319.00
We hope you enjoyed reading our page and hope to hear from you soon. Safe travels!
